Procedure Text

Procedures tell how to do something. This includes instructions on how to do something (to play games, carry out tasks, make recipes, show direction to get to a place, etc.).
Instructions and recipes consist of three parts. They are:
1. What is going to be made or done (goal or aim),
    e.g.: making homemade candy.
2. Things needed to achieve the goal (ingredients, materials,
equipment), e.g.: water, powdered sugar, corn syrup, etc.
3. The way how to achieve the goal (steps or instruction),
e.g.: sprinkle thick coat of powdered sugar.

The common grammatical patters of a procedure include:
§ the use of commands (i.e. the imperative form of the verb),
      e.g. ‘put’, ‘don’t mix’; etc.
§ the use of action verbs, e.g. ‘turn’, ‘pick up’, ‘don’t run’; etc.
An action verb is a word that describes an action.
§ the use of precise vocabulary, e.g. ‘whisk’, ‘lukewarm’; etc.
§ the use of connectives to sequence the actions in time,
      e.g. ‘then’, ‘while’; etc.
Examples:
    Combine flour and baking powder.
Beat eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl
     until lightcoloured.
Stir in the flour and baking powder mixture.
